“NIGHTWATCH” is a personal examination of landscape painting, where I contemporize historical “Nocturne Paintings,” creating  new images of the sublime. Inspiration for this work comes from my personal, physical exploration of the Sonoran desert during varying times and conditions of night. I use this setting to analyze  the passing of time, environment, and place which are themes I then translate to canvas with oil and oil pastels. This body of work encourages viewers to discover the active shapes, layers, and colors that disappear and reappear during prolonged viewing of the works . “NIGHTWATCH” explores the ephemeral quality of the delicate desert landscape and emphasizes the desert’s contemplative nature. Additionally, this body of work offers an entry  point into conversations on the environment, personal belonging, and ephemerality.
